We have a lot of new readers on the blog lately. I’m really excited to see this little blog growing into such a busy place. Welcome to all of the new people here! I hope you stick around and continue to love what you read.
In order to make sure I am serving you well, I put together a quick reader survey last month and pleaded with you all to help me out. Thank you so, so, so much to everyone who took the time to complete the survey. You have been a tremendous help as I start to think and plan for upcoming posts and projects on the blog.
In the last year I’ve really tried to shift from posting on the blog as a hobby whenever inspiration strikes, to having a more focused and strategic plan. My goal is to provide a place that is a support and blessing to busy moms. I want this to be a place to find ideas and inspiration, motivation and hope, grace and peace, and a sense of community where we can come together to love on and encourage each other. I know, that’s a pretty big dream for a tiny little blog. But I’m just going to keep showing up and doing my best, and trusting that God will take over and do what He feels should be done here.
So without further ado, here are the reader survey results.
Working Mom’s Balance Reader Profile
Want to know what a “typical” reader looks like? Here you go:
- Our typical reader is a female (96%), but we do have a few men who hang around from time to time. The men make up about 4% of our readers, so to the men who shyly admit to being readers, you’re not alone. 🙂
- Our readers are primarily 35-44 years of age (42%). This was a bit surprising to me as I’ll only be 33 this month. My fellow 25-34 year olds are in the next largest group at about 30% though.
- We have a pretty broad mix of education. 87% have anywhere from some college to a graduate or professional degree. Since I work for a university in my day job, this stat might only be interesting to me. 🙂
- Most readers are married (75%) with 2-3 children, primarily in Elementary or Middle School (41% for each), but pre-schoolers are keeping a few of us (32%) busy as well.
- Interestingly, 48% of us are employed full time, 30% are stay at home moms, 22% work from home, and 13% work part time (it doesn’t equal 100% because several people described themselves in more than one category). I’m not too surprised by this as I’ve noticed the broad mix of readers we have. If you haven’t heard me say it before, hopefully this helps you see that all are welcome and accepted here. My blog name might be Working Mom’s Balance, but all moms need encouragement, support, and community.
- The funnest question on the survey was “how often do you workout?” Since I workout every single day, I was curious to know if I was attracting the same type of person. We had a pretty even split of 46% of readers either never workout or only when they have time and 46% of readers workout several times a week or every single day. Apparently we are all or nothing kind of people here. Good to know.
- We spend most of our social media time on Facebook (96%), Pinterest (63%), and Instagram (38%) and we read blogs mostly in the early mornings (46%) or in the evenings (33%), late at night (33%), or on the weekends (33%). Only a handful read them during the work day (aren’t we such good employees?).
- The frequency of posts in general on Working Mom’s Balance is just about perfect or could be a little more often. For what it’s worth, my goal is to get a post out every Wednesday (or somewhere in the middle of the week) and a bonus weekend post once or twice a month (right now I have a once a month weekend KonMari series going). Since I’m a bit of a busy person, I don’t always keep up with this goal, but I’m trying.
- The majority of us love posts on personal growth, health, time management, Christian faith, marriage, and parenting. Although there are some who are not at all interested in Christian faith or marriage topics, which I expected for those two topics in particular.
- Some ideas I’m considering for the future based on your topic suggestions are working from home tips, finances, cooking hacks, and Bible studies. Feel free to send me any other ideas you have.
Our biggest areas of struggle
Sometimes it’s nice to know that we are not alone. Some of the areas we are struggling with or trying to improve in our lives right now include:
- staying focused and following through on plans
- finding time for me
- dinner dilemmas – getting everyone to eat the same, healthy, fast, and easy meals – does that even exist?
- parenting issues
- organization
- finances
- balancing relationships and overcoming loneliness
- grief (and expected grief to come)
- keeping a healthy lifestyle, weight loss, and exercise
- finding time to balance everything
- questions about career – are we doing the right thing with our careers? for our kids? finances?
- trusting in God and spending more time with Him
- spending more time with kids
- growing a business
- going back to school as an adult
- managing our time and creating boundaries
I am so encouraged by the number of new readers we have and the responses I received from this reader survey. You are all amazing and I’m so incredibly grateful for you. It still amazes me that God has chosen me and my crazy mess to help encourage and inspire other women. I’m not perfect and I don’t have it all together, but I also recognize that none of us have it all together. We all struggle. And we all need each other.
I hope that this blog becomes a place where we can be real and honest about our struggles, we can push and motivate each other, we can bring peace and joy to our tumultuous world, and we can improve our lives one step, one day at a time. Life is a precious gift, let’s help each other enjoy it.
Today’s action step:
Find a way to bring encouragement to another momma today. Say a kind word, do a nice deed, or inspire and uplift someone to take a step in the right direction. Share in the comments how you actively look for ways to spread kindness and encouragement to others in your daily life.
